Seattle-based sculptor Mike Leavitt offers a look at love in the spotlight with his “Real Love” exhibit of wedding-cake figurines at M Modern Gallery.
Leavitt used photographs to carve miniature clay versions of famous couples. The cake toppers are playful with a message.
“In the midst of tense political discussion and equal rights struggles for gay couples,” Leavitt offers “an entertaining breather and reminder that art and love triumph biased politics,” according to the gallery's Web site.
The celebration of marriage includes a collection of same-sex couples, such as Las Vegas entertainers Siegfried and Roy, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi, and writer Susan Sontag and photographer Annie Liebovitz.
Other pairs featured include John Lennon and Yoko Ono, “Sesame Street” faves Bert and Ernie, and Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
The gallery is at 2500 N. Palm Canyon Drive. It's open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Monday. Information: (760) 774-8474 and www.mmodern.com
