The Riverside Mountain Rescue Unit was called out Friday evening to help a group of 26 Marines on a scheduled hike on the Skyline Trail above Palm Springs after seven of the group became dehydrated.
The Marines are stationed at Twentynine Palms, said Investigator Matt Diaz of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.
The department was alerted of the group's situation around 5:15 p.m., Diaz said.
The group had stopped at about 5,300 feet, in an area that wasn't safe for a helicopter to land, he said.
After assembling at the Tramway, the rescue unit took water up to the dehydrated Marines.
The whole group was then able to hike back to the Tramway Mountain Station and take the tram back to Palm Springs, Diaz said.
