Connecting two mobile home parks to the Coachella Valley and Mission Springs water districts are among 160 water projects statewide that have received stimulus funding, the governor’s office announced today.
To date, projects statewide have seen $717 million from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act and state funding.
“My administration awarded this funding in record time to boost our state’s economy and get Californians back to work,” Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger said in a news release today.
“These water quality improvement projects will help stimulate local economies throughout California all while protecting our environment and public health.”

The well water in the 60-plus mobile homes are using does not meet state regulations for arsenic, according to water district spokesman Jack Porrelli.
The board at next week’s meeting will vote on the construction contract.
The 50 households have, for some time, wanted to connect to Mission Springs but needed funding, district spokeswoman Marilyn McKay said.
Bids are due back on Oct. 30, and the project should be complete by the end of the year.
“It was shovel ready and it needed to be done,” McKay said. “They wanted to connect but were unable to afford the connection fees. The stimulus money will allow us to help them make the connection.”
