William Rast opens first outlet store
CABAZON -- William Rast is opening its first outlet store today at Desert Hills Premium Outlets in Cabazon.
The brand specializes in denim, knits and outerwear and was founded by entertainment mogul Justin Timberlake and actor Trace Ayala.
The outlets are at 48400 Seminole Drive.

Jiffy Lube announces job openings, fair
CATHEDRAL CITY -- Jiffy Lube is hiring for full- and part-time positions at Coachella Valley locations and has a job fair scheduled for Saturday.
Available positions include lubrication technicians, management trainees and customer service representatives.

Mayor to speak at 'State of the City'
COACHELLA -- The Coachella Chamber of Commerce is presenting the “State of the City Address” at an event Nov. 12 at Spotlight 29 Casino.
Mayor Eduardo Garcia will deliver the report at the event, which runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Cost is $25 for members, $35 for nonmembers and $40 at the door. The casino is at 46200 Harrison Place.

Mingle and network for free at LG's
LA QUINTA -- Members of the Palm Springs Desert Resort Communities Convention and Visitors Authority are invited to a meet-and-see event Thursday.

GLBT business group celebrates 30 years
PALM SPRINGS -- Desert Business Association, the Coachella Valley's only GLBT business association, will celebrate 30 years of service Dec. 7.
The anniversary will be celebrated during a holiday party from 6 to 9 p.m. at BluEmber Restaurant, Rancho Las Palmas Resort, 41-000 Bob Hope Drive, Rancho Mirage.
The event will feature live music, gift bags and a slide show of the organization's 30 years of service to the community. Hors d'oeuvres will be provided by BluEmber. The event will feature drink specials, Kahlua models who will offer samples and giveaways, chair massages offered by the Spa at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort, and prizes.

Equestrian group hosts barbecue
PALM SPRINGS -- Los Compadres, one of the oldest equestrian clubs in the desert, will hold its annual deep pit barbecue on Saturday.
The barbecue, a 50-year tradition, offers old-fashioned hospitality, food and country western dance music from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Los Compadres Clubhouse, 1849 S. El Cielo, Palm Springs. A portion of the funds raised from the event that drew 1,000 meals last year are sent to the Los Compadres Scholarship Program.

Credit union hires new branch manager
PALM DESERT -- Point Loma Credit Union has a new branch manager in Palm Desert, Maria E. Andrews.
She has held been a service and branch manager at community banks in Riverside County and her ability to speak Spanish is a value for the business, according to a statement from Ted Dennis, president and CEO.

Two groups hold planning workshops
RANCHO MIRAGE -- Two committees at the Palm Springs Desert Resort Communities Convention and Visitors Authority will be holding planning workshops Friday for 2010.
CVA members are invited to attend the sessions. The deadline to sign up is Monday.
The Consumer Marketing Planning Workshop will run from 10 a.m. to noon. The Travel Industry Sales Planning Workshop is scheduled from 2 to 4 p.m. Both will take place in the boardroom at the CVA's offices, at 70-100 Highway 111, Rancho Mirage.

YUCCA VALLEY -- Soroptimist International of Yucca Valley heard from the head of Hi-Desert Medical Center recently.
Chief executive officer CEO Lionel “Chad” Chadwick talked about new things happening at the medical center in Joshua Tree.
