Palm Springs Pride Parade to feature Cleve Jones as grand marshal

Marcel Honore • The Desert Sun • November 3, 2009

Human rights activist and valley resident Cleve Jones will serve as grand marshal at the Greater Palm Springs Pride Festival and Parade this weekend.

The festival will feature food courts and more than 200 booths, and the parade will take place 10 a.m. Sunday along Palm Canyon Drive, according to a city of Palm Springs news release.

This year's theme is "Your Rights, Our Rights, Human Rights," the release stated.

Jones, who was portrayed by Emile Hirsch in last year's Academy Award-winning film "Milk," founded the AIDS Memorial Quilt and worked with local gay rights activists in the wake of Proposition 8's passage, banning same-sex marriage in California.

The festival opens 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Palm Springs Stadium. Admission is $15, or $20 for a two-day pass.
