SATURDAY

BELATED DAY OF THE DEAD CELEBRATION: Don't fret if you missed the Palm Springs Art Museum's Day of the Dead celebration a couple of weeks ago because you'll have another chance to observe the holiday this weekend — even if it is a few days late.

A Dia de los Muertos community celebration will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday in Coachella. The colorful and artistic tradition promises to pay homage to loved ones who have passed on and honor Mexican American heritage. The community is invited to enjoy live music, cultural art and, of course, alters.

Dia de los Muertos, 6-9 p.m. Saturday, Centro Martin Ortiz, 1612 First St. Coachella. Free.

KEEP IT ON THE D.L.: Los Angeles comedian D.L. Hughley has a lot on his plate. The busy actor and comic, whose credits include “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip” and Spike Lee's “The Original Kings of Comedy,” currently hosts the “D.L. Hughley Morning Show” on New York City's WRKS radio. He'll also be making a quick stop in the desert this weekend.

SUNDAY

NEON LEON: As a solo artist, Leon Russell is best known for the hit “Tight Rope.” But his true greatness is as a bandleader and arranger.

Russell started out as a member of Phil Spector's famed Wrecking Crew, playing mostly keyboards on albums by The Byrds, The Ronettes and others.

At the peak of his influence in the late '60s and early '70s, however, Russell was the go-to sideman for such artists as Joe Cocker, George Harrison, Delaney Bramlett, Ringo Starr, Eric Clapton, Dave Mason, Willie Nelson, Badfinger, J.J. Cale, and the Rolling Stones, to name a few.

Now 67, Russell continues to perform live, including Sunday's late afternoon outdoor show at Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown.

STARSTUDDED: Put your dancing shoes on and get ready to raise some dough for a good cause.

“Dancing with Our Stars” — the multi-charity event pairing active community members with local professionals in a ballroom dance competition — kicks off Sunday at La Quinta's Embassy Suites.

Sit back, relax and enjoy, but don't forget to cast your vote for best dancer. Tickets are $75 per person, which includes dinner and $20 toward vote donations for the charity of your choice.
