Police arrest armed robbery suspect

Colin Atagi • The Desert Sun • November 6, 2009

A parole was arrested in Desert Hot Springs this afternoon on suspicion of robbing a victim at gunpoint early this morning.

Robert Steinureck, 34, is accused of robbing the victim at about 3:30 a.m. in the area of Hacienda Drive and Don English Way after the person's vehicle broke down, according to police.

Investigators say he was accompanied by two other suspects and there are unconfirmed reports a machine gun was used during the robbery.

Moments after reporting the crime about 12 hours later, the victim called police after spotting Steinureck driving the suspect vehicle, officials said.

After pulling over the vehicle in the area of El Cajon and Ironwood drives, police officers searched the suspect and found property belonging to the victim, according to police.

Steinureck was on parole for robbery and faces a third strike under California's three strikes law.

He was taken to the Riverside County Jail in Banning.

The other two unidentified suspects remain at large.
