Family Golf Day

Marriott Golf will host a Family Golf Festival Day at Shadow Ridge Golf Club in Palm Desert on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Free activities for the day include a demonstration day with several top vendors in golf on hand, a junior golf program from the First Tee of the Coachella Valley, a 10 a.m. golf clinic from the Faldo Golf Institute which is based at Shadow Ridge, a 1 p.m. putting contest and free golf after 3 p.m. for all participates who sign up for a starting time at the golf shop. Refreshments will also be available for purchase at Nick Faldo's Bar and Grill at the club. Information: 760-674-2700.


EWGA holiday event

The Palm Springs/Desert Cities chapter of the Executive Women's Golf Association will hold its annual holiday party on Dec. 6 at the Rancho Las Palmas Resort in Rancho Mirage. Cost is $30, including buffet, no-host bar, drawings and prizes. Women who join the EWGA that night will receive $10 in EWGA bucks, good for future association golf tournaments, plus entry into a grand prize drawing. EWGA is a not-for-profit organization that helps women learn about the game and the opportunities for business networking and camaraderie through the game. Celebrity golf

The 16th annual winter Greater Palm Springs Celebrity Golf Classic will be played Dec. 3-6 at Desert Princess Country Club in Cathedral City. Academy Award-winning songwriter Carol Connor will be the host of the event this year. Entry fee is $1,795 per player or $2,800 per couple, including two tickets to each of the event's three parties, one practice round at Desert Princess and two days of golf competition at the course. Caponi honored

LPGA Hall of Famer Donna Caponi-Byrnes, the 1980 Colgate Dinah Shore winner and a four-time major championships winner, has been named the recipient of the 2009 PGA First Lady of Golf Award. She will be honored Jan. 28, 2010, at the PGA of America Awards program in Orlando, Fla., held in conjunction with the 57th PGA Merchandise Show at the Orange County Convention Center. Caponi-Byrnes, who is a commentator for the Golf Channel, made the 1969 U.S. Women's Open at Scenic Hills Country Club in Pensacola, Fla., her first professional victory. She went on to win 24 championships from 1969 through 1981 on the LPGA.

Aces High

Chuck Robertson of Indio aced the 151-yard par-3 14th hole at Heritage Palms Golf Club in Indio on Nov. 9. Robertson used a 7-iron.

Jim Lhotka of Zephyr Cove, Nev. aced the 165-yard par-3 fifth hole at Indian Springs Golf Club in Indio on Nov. 6. Lhotka used a 3 rescue club.

Michele Knudson aced the 110-yard par-3 sixth hole at Desert Falls Country Club in Palm Desert on Nov 5. Knudson used a 6-iron.

Karla Porter aced the 111-yard par-3 eighth hole at the Lagos nine of Desert Princess Country Club in Cathedral City on Nov. 9. Porter used a 6-iron.
