An estimated crowd of 30,000 people lined Palm Canyon Drive on Wednesday for the 13th annual Veterans Day Parade in Palm Springs.
The procession was led by Marines from the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center with the guard on horseback and their band marching behind.
The event's theme, “Honoring All Who Served,” was representative of parade participants.
Veterans including the Pearl Harbor Survivors, Jewish War Veterans Post 750 and at least one of the Tuskegee Airmen were greeted with cheers of “Thank you” from some onlookers as they passed by. Others like Marine veteran Antonio Gomez, 49, saluted them.
“(Veterans Day) honors my fellow brothers and sisters who have fallen for the freedom we enjoy nowadays,” said Gomez, who served in Kuwait and left the military as a corporal.
Spectators clapped along to music played by local youth bands such as the Palm Springs High School Spirit of the Sands and Raymond Cree Middle School bands.
The parade was followed by a concert and fireworks show at Amado Road and Palm Canyon Drive.
