Five people were arrested and 25 were cited during a DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint in Thermal Friday evening, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Arrested were:
--Gerardo Ramirez Vences, 42, of Indio on suspicion of DUI
-- Martin Mesa, 23, of Thermal on suspicion of DUI
--Jose Vargas Bautista, 25, of Mecca on suspicion of public intoxication
--Julio Diaz, 20, of Thermal on suspicion of possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia and violation of probation
-- Juan Hernandez Garcia, 29, of Mecca, who was cited and released at the scene for four outstanding misdemeanor traffic warrants.
Police also cited 23 drivers for hazardous or equipment violations and two people
for driving without a license, according to the sheriff's department.
Four vehicles were towed during the 5.5 hour checkpoint.
More than 1750 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, which was held near the intersection of Highway 86 and Airport Boulevard on Friday.
