Saturday was a day of events across the Coachella Valley, with two of the most colorful happening in Cathedral City and Palm Springs.
In Cathedral City, the Desert Rose Society hosted the 2009 Fall American Rose Society's National Conference at the Doral Desert Princess Resort, 67-967 Vista Chino.
The conference held a rose show Saturday, featuring two locally grown varieties, the Coachella rose and the P.S. I Love You rose.
And in Palm Springs, a fully equipped glass-blowing studio was set up outside the Palm Springs Art Museum, 101 Museum Way.
Those in attendance were treated to a demonstration of glass-blowing, where skilled artists worked with molten, brightly colored glass, molding it into delicate figures and shapes.
The demonstration accompanied an ongoing exhibition at the museum — Lino Tagliapietra in Retrospect: A Modern Renaissance in Italian Glass — which is on display through Dec. 27.
