Highway patrol searching for driver in fatal crash

The California Highway Patrol Thursday sought the public's help in finding the “twentysomething” driver of a Ford Mustang involved in a deadly single-car crash in Thousand Palms.

Gregorio Herrera Torres, who also goes by the name of Juan Sanchez Torres, is believed to be the driver. CHP Officer Ramon Perez said he allegedly ran from the 9:45 p.m. crash scene on Dillon Road near Thousand Palms Canyon on Sept. 25.

Roberto Torres, 27, of Thermal died at the scene. It was unclear if he was related to the alleged driver.

Two female passengers, 18 and 19, suffered minor injuries.

The man being sought was described as Hispanic, about 5 foot 7 inches and 120 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
