High school and college students in the Coachella Valley will get to see what it's really like to argue a case before the California Supreme Court when the state's top appelate court holds a special outreach session Tuesday and Wednesday at the Palm Desert Campus of Cal State, San Bernardino.

"I think it’s a wonderful opportunity for the students . . . to be able to see actual real, oral arguments," said Justice Douglas P. Miller, an appeals court judge in the Fourth Appellate District in Riverside.

Miller is chairman of the committee that organized the special two-day session to be held in Cal State's Indian Wells Theater, 37-500 Cook St., Palm Desert.

The session begins at 8:45 a.m. Tuesday with the justices taking questions from students.

The court will then hear oral arguments on two cases, People v. Hernandez and In re Raymond C., both of which turn on whether police have the right to stop cars which do not have license plates to determine if the vehicle has a valid temporary license.

The court will be hearing a total of eight cases during the special session.
