The American Heat Motorcycle Rally will take place Friday through Sunday in downtown Palm Springs.

There will be bike displays, booths and shows.

Bikes will be lined up along Palm Canyon Drive.

Palm Springs Police Chief David Dominguez told merchants this morning that the police department has enforcement under control.

While there have been some tensions lately among competing motorcycle gangs, Dominguez said his department is well aware of potential issues and have heard that these groups just want to have fun this weekend.

"There is always a chance something could happen," Dominguez said, but stressed that conflict can happen at any event.

He added there will be a lot of officers on scene but for the most part, most bike enthusiasts are just interested in looking at motorcycles and seeing the shows.
