COACHELLA VALLEY -- Today is the last call for participants to sign up for the Palm Springs Desert Resort Communities Convention and Visitors Authority's mini trade show.

The show is for CVA members only.

It starts at 10:15 a.m. Oct. 28 at the Palm Springs Convention Center, 277 N. Avenida Caballeros.

Bank welcomes new CFO

PALM DESERT -- A 17-year Imperial County and Coachella Valley banking veteran is the new chief financial officer at Desert Commercial Bank.

Harry Gooding will be based in the business bank's executive offices in Palm Desert.

Gooding, along with Desert Commercial Bank President and Chief Executive Officer Tony Swartz and Chief Credit Officer Jack Brittain, were part of the senior management team at the former Valley Independent Bank.

The El Centro-based bank was absorbed by the Netherlands-based Rabobank.

Gooding spent 14 years at the bank before retiring as chief financial officer in 2005.

In his new post, Gooding will manage all aspects of accounting and investment operations throughout Desert Commercial Bank's two-county market.

Desert Commercial Bank reported assets of $142 million as of June 30, while deposits stood at $123.7 million. The community bank received its charter in June 2005.

Motorcycle weekend begins today

PALM SPRINGS -- The city of Palm Springs expects 10,000 motorcycle enthusiasts this weekend during the American Heat Motorcycle Weekend.

The rally features live music, shopping, stunt shows and, for participants, poker runs, bike games and a competition ride. The weekend-long event is sponsored, in part, by the city and by Palm Springs Harley-Davidson, Renegade Classics in Cathedral City, Budweiser, Jagermeister, Main Street Merchants, Palm Springs Hotel Association, the Palm Springs Lions club, Palm Springs Rotary Club and the Roadhouse Grill.
