A motorcyclist and his passenger were transported to a local hospital tonight after careening into a car that pulled out into traffic on East Palm Canyon Drive.

The couple on Harley Davidson bike were ejected after slamming into a Toyota SUV around 8:10 p.m. Saturday, said Sgt. Abraham Tokier, Palm Springs Police Department spokesman.
The motorcyclist was transported to Desert Regional Medical Center with serious injuries.
“He’s in bad shape,” Tokier said.
The couple had been at the American Heat Palm Springs Motorcycle Weekend festival earlier in the day and was within blocks of their hotel when the accident happened, Tokier said.
The driver of the SUV, was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence. Because the SUV driver is from Idaho, police are seeking a $100,000 bail enhancement, Tokier said.
The motorcyclist, Tokier said, is also suspected of driving under the influence.
Speed does not appear to be a factor in the accident. The posted speed limit along East Palm Canyon Drive is 45 miles per hour.
Police had tapped off the intersection section in the 600 block of East Palm Canyon Drive near Bermuda Palms Hotel.
