The Palm Springs City Council will celebrate the $70 million transformation of the iconic Riviera Resort & Spa during a special 10 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, Oct. 21. A tour of the property will follow.

The 24-acre resort located at 1600 N. Indian Canyon Drive, in the heart of downtown, is considered one of the most significant mid-century modern landmarks in Palm Springs. The ultra-chic renovation includes guest rooms and an array of meeting and event space as well as signature dining and entertainment, Hollywood Regency style d√©cor and the 11,000 square foot luxury SpaTerre ñ featuring 18 treatment rooms, a full service hair and nail salon, relaxation lounge and fitness center.

The resort, once a celebrity playground for the likes of former Palm Springs residents Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Elvis Presley, will feature 406 guestrooms and spacious suites with marble bathrooms, flat screen plasma televisions, wireless Internet, separate work and living areas as well as private patios and balconies with garden, mountain or pool views.

Second only in size to the Palm Springs Convention Center, the Riviera will feature more than 40,000 square feet of meeting and event space ñ with the ability to accommodate small receptions and events or large meetings with up to 1,000 attendees.

“We are very excited to have the Riviera rejoin our hotel collection,” said Jim Dunn, General Manager of the Palm Springs Convention Center. “The new renovation is spectacular and should serve the City's group and leisure visitors extremely well.”

Owned and operated by Seattle-based Noble House Hotels & Resorts, the newly renovated resort is “huge” for the City, said John Raymond, Director of Community and Economic Development.

“$70 million is actually the largest sum of money ever spent on a hotel in Palm Springs,” he said. “As we're working on new hotels like the Hard Rock and Mondrian downtownÖ it's a strong sign of faith in our destination and brand.”
