Long-sleeve fleece sweaters will be the latest souvenirs on sale at the upcoming Indio International Tamale Festival.
The city will sell the sweaters, along with trademark T-shirts, aprons and hats on Smurr and Towne streets between Indio Boulevard and Highway 111 during the festival, said Jim Curtis, city human services supervisor/special events.
“People like coming to the festival, so they like sporting the logo of the festival,” he said.
The festival raised more than $12,000 for the city through merchandise sales last year, said Felicita Lugo, festival merchandising coordinator.
Long-sleeve clothing is becoming very popular, Lugo said.
There will be an increased supply of women's clothing based on the demand, Curtis said.
For adults, the sizes available will range from small to triple-XL and small to large for youth, he said.
The festival will also sell reusable red and green grocery tote bags as part of its environmental efforts, Lugo said.
Polypropylene lines the bags to preserve cold items.
The products will be exclusively for sale at the festival, Curtis said.
“We're like Grandma Lupe's tamales,” Curtis said, referring to a popular tamale vendor. “You can only get these at the tamale festival.”
