INDIAN WELLS — So far, the partnership of Victoria Azarenka and Vera Zvonareva has been very good in 2009, as the two have not lost a match on the court this year.

Azarenka and Zvonareva won their first doubles championship together Saturday, beating Shahar Peer and Gisela Dulko 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 to take the title at the BNP Paribas Open.

Azarenka and Zvonareva will take home the winners' check of $237,000. Peer and Dulko will split $118,500.

This season, Azarenka and Zvonareva are 7-1, with their lone loss to Cara Black and Liezel Huber when they had to pull out due to Azarenka's illness.

Azarenka fell ill during her fourth-round match at the Australian Open. Azarenka won the first set against eventual champion Serena Williams, but had to retire while trailing in the second set 4-2.

Winning their first title wasn't easy. After winning the first set, Azarenka and Zvonareva made a few mistakes that began to snowball.

“I think we had our ups and downs throughout the game, and they're very tough opponents to play. You have to be very consistent against them,” Zvonareva said. “As soon as we make a couple of mistakes, they, you know, they play very good. They play very consistent, so I think in the first set we were a little bit better.

“But we came out for the tiebreak very strong, and we're happy about it.”
