There may not have been as much hype surrounding Saturday's bill at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, but music fans were treated to a solid lineup that included headliner The Killers and M.I.A., who invited about 50 festivalgoers onstage during her set on the Coachella Stage.
The Grammy nominated rapper electrified the star-studded crowd — which included Paris Hilton, Drew Barrymore, Jake Gyllenhaal — with her hit “Paper Planes.” For first-time Coachella concertgoer Eric Aragon, 28, of San Bernardino, the experience was amazing. “It's been exciting with all the bands,” he said. “It's not just the music but meeting people from different cultures.”
Other Saturday highlights include the Coachella debut of THENEWNO2, featuring George Harrison's son Dhani Harrison, Dr. Dog, Thievery Corporation, Drive-By Truckers, Fleet Foxes and Henry Rollins. No attendance figures were available Saturday, but the crowd appeared thicker than Friday's, which was sold out. Indio Police reported 17 alcohol- and drug-related arrests as of 8 p.m.
