Kid Rock wows Stagecoach crowd; Kenny Chesney closes festival

Matt Wolfe • The Desert Sun • April 26, 2009

It must be fate.

No matter when the back to back festival weekends of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and the Stagecoach Music Festival will be planned, the first event will fall victim to the first heat wave of the year, and the latter will seem cool and breezy in comparison.

Despite the fact that the festivals were each pushed forward one week earlier than usual, it happened again this year. While fans endured temperatures that neared triple digits last Sunday, today's crowd will have much easier conditions to weather. The forecast for Day Two of the festival calls for a high of 83, and a low of 57. Not too shabby.

Still, on the way from the parking lot to the grounds yesterday, many people were already complaining about the heat, which was a scorching 81 degrees. Ouch, who would have guessed that frail indie kids would seem tougher than the cowboys.

Either way, the great temperatures won't be the only things that today's crowd should enjoy; there is still a lot of great music to be heard.

Over on the Mustang Stage, fans can check out Ricky Scaggs, smack dab in the middle of the tent's schedule for the day at 4:25.

For those interested in a band with history, Poco will be hitting the Palomino Stage at 5 p.m.

Of course, who could ignore the two powerhouses that will close down the Mane Stage?

At 7:30, Mr. Robert Ritchie, better known as Kid Rock will bring his swagger front and center for the crowd to soak in.

To call it a night, the one and only Kenny Chesney will bring his convoy of hits to the festival at 9:15.

In between these acts, the music will be playing all day long, and don't forget to stop by the barbecue competition, where some of the best meats in the country will be served up. Cowboy up and have a great day, yee-haw!
