La Quinta freshman records hole-in-one

CATHEDRAL CITY — When La Quinta High School freshman Hannah McCune made contact with her tee shot on the 9th hole at Cimarron Golf Club on Tuesday, she knew right away it was right on line.

Little did she know that it flew 119 yards and into the cup for a hole-in-one.

“I knew it would be within a couple of feet, but we (playing partner Erin Paradis) were in the third group, so all my teammates ran onto the green before us,” said McCune. “The Cathedral City coach (Lisa Johnson) is the one who said it went in.”

McCune, 14, used a PING G5 8-iron to score her first ace and help her to post her career-best nine-hole score of 43.

She helped the Blackhawks to a school-best 193 as a team in a 193-293 victory against host Cathedral City. Jaclyn Van Natta, Raychelle Santos and Natascha Wiebe each shot a 36 and Samantha Van Natta added a 42. The school's previous best mark was 204.

“I just couldn't believe it,” she said. “It was my personal best and the team's, too.”
