Cross country

La Quinta at Mount SAC INVITATIONAL: The Blackhawks finished eighth out of 21 teams at the 62nd annual Mount SAC Invitational.


Hayley Musashi finished seventh overall on the 3-mile course with a time of 19 minutes, 6 seconds.

She was followed for the Blackhawks by Renee De La Parra (52nd, 21:33), Breah Stewart (57th, 21:50), Brigette Cochran (58th, 21:53) and Emily Ziomek (60th, 21:55).

For the boys, Evan Dougherty led the way in a time of 16:48 as the Blackhawks finished 16th out of 21 teams. He was followed by Manuel Montalvo in 17:20, Jonathan Hernandez in 18:11, Jorge Ceja in 18:14 and Luciano Arana 18:20.

The next action for both teams is Nov. 4 in the DVL meet at Cathedral City.

XAVIER PREP at MounT SAC: Led by Angel Medina's 15th-place finish with a time of 17:50, the Saints finished third in the 30-team meet with a team score of 105 points.

Also for Xavier Prep, Will Tingle finished 16th (18:00), Tommy Paz placed 18th (18:09), Chris Spinney came in 26th (18:25) and Steven Perez was 33rd (18:48).

Led by Karina Castaneda's third-place finish with a time of 19:57, the girls finished 14th in the 29-team meet with a team score of 344 points.

Also for the Saints, Meg Lizza took 27th (21:54).

Football

Oak Hills 62, Xavier Prep 13: Xavier Prep went on the road and lost.

No information was reported by the Saints (2-6).

Girls golf

Palm Desert 203, La Quinta 216 The Palm Desert High School girls golf team clinched the Desert Valley League title Oct. 22 with a 203-216 victory against La Quinta at Desert Willow Golf Club.

The Aztecs won their 120th consecutive DVL match, dating back 11 years.

Palm Desert has won the DVL title every year since the girls' golf program began in 1999.

Palm Desert coach Jack Stewart, who's coached all 11 years, said this is what keeps him going.

“It's rewarding to continue the tradition,” Stewart said. “A ton of girls have been a part of it and it's quite an honor to keep the streak going.”

Bow Salotti shot a 37 to lead the Aztecs, while Lauren Mata and Kimmie Hill carded 38s. Allie Zech shot a 40 while Emily O'Shea filled in with a 50.

For La Quinta, Raychelle Santos had the day's low score of 36. Natascha Wiebe shot a 39, and Samantha Van Natta added a 44. Jaclyn Van Natta (48) and Erin Paradis (49) also stood out.

Palm Desert improved to 16-0, 10-0 with the victory, and La Quinta fell to 13-4, 8-2 with the loss.
