MORENO VALLEY — Chris Dougherty threw for 212 yards and four touchdowns and added 93 yards rushing and two touchdowns as Desert Christian High School remained undefeated in Victory League play with a 60-14 victory over Calvary Chapel.
Dougherty also had a solid game defensively with 11 tackles, an interception and a forced fumble.
Also for Desert Christian, Josh Curci rushed for 47 yards on five carries and a touchdown and caught eight passes for 154 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned an interception 15 yards for a touchdown.
Justin Young's fourth-quarter touchdown with 9:26 remaining ended the contest.
Head coach Justin Tidwell was proud of his team's victory despite missing seven players due to both illness and injuries.
“We had some guys out tonight, but luckily we had other guys that stepped up, especially Chris. He put the team on his shoulders with his big game. We had to start a couple freshmen on both sides of the ball, but the guys rallied around it,” he said.
“We've got Desert Chapel next week at home. It's our homecoming game, and it's for the league title, so the guys have something to look forward to,” he added.
Desert Christian (7-1, 3-0) will host Desert Chapel at 7 p.m., Friday.
Public Service Academy 52, Marywood-Palm Valley 28: At Rancho Mirage, Marywood-Palm Valley came up short as Blake Downey rushed for 255 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. He also completed five passes for 78 yards.
Down 36-28 in the beginning of the third quarter, the Firebirds had a chance to get the ball back. Public Safety Academy scored a touchdown on a third-and-long deep in their territory and the Firebirds never recovered.
Keaton Herrera had six receptions for 99 yards and a touchdown. Trevor Zien added a 28-yard touchdown catch to finish with 56 yards.
Defensively, Zien had 14 tackles and a fumble recovery, while Christian Coleman added an interception.
Marywood-Palm Valley (3-4, 1-2) plays Pacific Lutheran at 6 p.m. on Friday at the Home Depot Center in Carson.
