The Indian Wells Rotary Club is scheduled to present checks and gift certificates to the winners of its first literacy drive at its luncheon at noon Monday at the Indian Wells Country Club, 46-000 Club Drive.

The five middle school students who were among the top readers — from La Quinta, Thomas Jefferson, Indio, Toro Canyon and Bobby Duke middle schools — competed against more than 200 students in the drive, which was based on the most minutes used reading.

The club will dole out a total of $1,500, plus Barnes & Noble gift certificates to the winning students.

The club is also expected to present $5,000 to Marines from Twentynine Palms, club officials said.
