John Williams' endorsement letter of incumbent Ginny Foat and newcomer David Carden said it all. Williams's reasons for not supporting incumbent Chris Mills were also right on target.
Personally, I have great respect for Mills. He is capable, informed, well intentioned and cares about his city. However, I totally disagree with his vision for Palm Springs.
For years he voted in a bloc with Ron Oden and Mike McCullough to give developers pretty much what they wanted. His promises in his fliers do not agree at all with his actions.
As for his promise to preserve our architectural heritage and our history, his voting record shows otherwise. His promise to “preserve our village charm” does not jibe with his vigorously promoting entire four- and five-story city blocks of glass boxes on each end of town. This does not make our village more charming.
“Protecting our views and our mountainsides” certainly does not correspond with supporting building on the Chino Cone. Making it part of the national monument would truly protect it.
Our city is at a real crossroads. I strongly believe that we need Ginny Foat and David Carden to save us from overdevelopment and to preserve its charm.
