County hosting job fair today in Cabazon

The Desert Sun • November 3, 2009

The Riverside County Board of Supervisors and the Riverside County Workforce Investment Board will host a job fair in Cabazon today.

The event, at the James A. Venable Community Center, 50-390 Carmen Ave., is in a locale that has the highest unemployment rate of any city in Riverside County. It will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Tom Freeman, a spokesman for the Riverside County Economic Development Agency, said more than 20 employers plan to attend the job fair to screen and hire employees for seasonal or full-time work.

The Cabazon community has been hit hard by unemployment rates that are more than double the county average at 33.7 percent, Freeman said.

The event, funded by 2009 Workforce Investment dollars, was organized under the direction of Riverside County Supervisor Marion Ashley; Workforce Development Board Chairman Ric Olalde; Assistant County Chief Executive for the Economic Development Agency Rob Feld and Economic Development Agency Managing Director Dan Martinez.
