Come celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Coachella Valley History Museum

Allison Fedrick • Reader Submitted • November 3, 2009

Opened in 1984, the Coachella Valley History Museum became a landmark historical society with a mission to preserve, interpret and share the artifacts that create a true dialogue about the evolving history of the Coachella Valley.

Today, the Coachella Valley History Museum continues to share the unique history of the desert and the pioneers who forged through the difficult environment to create the community it is today.

The museum also strives to be an integral part of the community, serving residents and tourists of all ages as a center of learning, discovery, and history. The museum campus contains the Smiley-Tyler House, a 1926 adobe home which houses the main exhibits, the historic 1909 Schoolhouse, and the soon to be opened Date Museum. Also, the spacious grounds hold a variety of gardens, including a Memorial Date Garden, a Japanese Garden, and the oldest Cork Oak tree in the Coachella Valley. Other highlights consist of our Submarine house, a Blacksmith shop, and the archives for the Historical Society.

The museum grounds are a beautiful setting for all sorts of events, but this Saturday, we are taking over to celebrate 25 years of life, membership, and history.

Please come. Learn about the valley. You'll meet some wonderful people and just might be encouraged to volunteer. Call the museum for more details. 760-342-6651
