The Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce and founding sponsor Jessup Auto Plaza have announced the recipients of the 2009 ATHENA and Terra Awards.

Dr. Shakti Ava Mahapatra, a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists at Desert Regional Medical Center, is expected to receive an ATHENA award.

Fern Rudd, Partner in Education program coordinator at Palm Springs High School, is also expected to receive an ATHENA award.

Sally West Brooks, past chairwoman of the National Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society, and Sharron Stroud, dean of the Institute of Successful Living, will be recognized as Terra Award honorees.

The awards are scheduled to be presented at the ATHENA Awards Luncheon on Dec. 15 at the Wyndham Palm Springs, 888 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way.

Tickets for the event are $55 for individual tickets and $500 for tables of 10 guests.
