An ex-con accused of trying to pawn two handguns in Palm Springs pleaded not guilty Monday to a weapons charge.
Cody Abbott, 31, of Desert Hot Springs faces a charge of a felon in possession of a firearm and a sentence-enhancing allegation of being convicted twice of a felony.
Abbott and Victor Griffin, 39, of Palm Springs are accused of trying to sell two .38-caliber revolvers at Palm Springs Finest Jewelry, 278 N. Palm Canyon Drive, about 2:30 p.m. Thursday, said Sgt. Mitch Spike of the Palm Springs Police Department.
The men were arrested when a records check showed both men were listed as felons and were not permitted to possess handguns, Spike said.
Griffin posted $25,000 bail and was released the same day, according to the sergeant. He is scheduled to be arraigned Dec. 2.
Abbott, who is being held in lieu of $75,000 bail, is set to appear in court on Nov. 9 for a felony settlement conference.
