United States Customs and Border Protection Agents confiscated $1.2 million in cocaine during a vehicle search at the Highway 86 checkpoint this morning.

The silver-colored sedan entered the checkpoint, which is south of the Coachella Valley, at about 4:30 a.m., according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency.

A canine team alerted officials to 38 pounds of cocaine that was hidden under a seat.

The vehicle, cocaine and driver, who is a U.S. citizen, were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
