Aztecs send three golfers to regional final

Staff report • November 3, 2009

HEMET — Palm Desert High School sophomore Kimmy Hill carded a 73 at the CIF Southern Individual Regional Tournament at Landmark in Hemet on Monday, leading three qualifiers into the finals.

Hill finished 10th overall and advanced to the CIF Individual Final and WSCGA Qualifying event. That is set for Nov. 12 at Talega G.C. in San Clemente.

Teammate Ali Zech shot 76 and Lauren Mata carded 79. The other local qualifier is La Quinta's Natascha Wiebe, who also shot 79.

“All the girls (from one through five from Palm Desert) had problems with putting,'' said Aztecs' coach Jack Stewart. “The greens were really quick.

“Kimmy played really solid. She finished with four birdies and was steady overall.”

Playing in the event but not advancing were Bow Salotti and Kathryn Randazzo of Palm Desert and Elisa Carillo of Palm Springs.

The next girls golf event is the Eastern team divisional Thursday at Seven Hills in Hemet.

Palm Desert and La Quinta have qualified for the team event.
