The local Marine Corps League Detachment is throwing a 234th birthday for the U.S. Marines Corps on Nov. 10.

It will feature Scottish bagpipe music, a cake cutting ceremony and a guest appearance by Lt. Col Thomas Gordon, a commanding officer.

The luncheon, hosted by Marine Corps League Detachment #1156, will begin at 11:30 a.m. at the Miracle Springs Spa Resort, 10625 Palm Drive, Desert Hot Springs.

Tickets cost $35. Advance reservations are encouraged.

Proceeds will be donated to the Marine Corps Junior ROTC Program at Desert Hot Springs High School.

The group raised $7,000 last year.
