Indian Wells Police Chief Matt Jimenez conducted the city’s first Crime Prevention Program session this morning, providing safety tips to more than two dozen residents.
The program was launched as part of outreach efforts by the city and came at a time when residents are preparing for the holiday season.
A Q&A period was also available at the hour-long session for residents, which covered how to prevent burglaries, tools for self-defense and how to identify scams.
Jimenez said among the most common blunders made by residents is simply not closing car windows, keeping garage doors open and unattended and keeping valuables in plain sight, which can all tempt criminals.
City officials said depending on feedback, a series of these presentations may be conducted throughout the year.
Today’s Crime Prevention Program session is expected to be televised on Channel 17.
