Palm Desert police receive $163,167 for DUI enforcement

Brian Indrelunas • The Desert Sun • November 4, 2009

The city of Palm Desert received a $163,167 grant from the state for a yearlong enforcement program aimed at reducing deaths and injuries related to driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Palm Desert police announced Wednesday.

Police said the grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety would be used to fund new enforcement measures and education programs, including DUI checkpoints, warrant searches and saturation patrols.

Palm Desert police will also pay special attention to incidents involving motorcycles, sending extra patrols to areas with high levels of motorcycle traffic in an effort to reduce motorcycle fatalities, police said.
