The ENLACE (Expressing, Nationalities, Languages and Cultures through Education) Club brought a lunchtime Day of the Dead celebration to their classmates at Palm Desert High School on Monday by paying tribute to artists who have passed away.
Students and community members worked together to create altars for the celebrities and talked about their lives before singing and dancing to the music of Michael Jackson, Selena, Valentin Elizalde and Marilyn Monroe.
Honoring celebrities was a way to recognize the traditional celebration of remembrance and make it relevant to all students, ENLACE club adviser Magdalena Zepeda said.
