Indians clinch DVL volleyball title

PALM SPRINGS — The unbeaten Palm Springs High School volleyball team officially claimed the Desert Valley League title Tuesday, a feat that seemed inevitable due to the consistent impressive play of the Indians all year.


Palm Springs (15-0, 9-0) defeated Indio 25-6, 25-10, 25-8 to clinch the outright title. The Indians hold a two-game lead with one game to go.

Mindy Knight had seven kills and one block and Lexi Dempsey had seven aces and five assists for the Indians. Also for Palm Springs, Haley Westergard had 15 assists and four aces and Nina Rogers had four kills and two aces.

Palm Springs goes for a perfect regular season Thursday at Cathedral City.

PALM DESERT 3, COACHELLA VALLEY 0: Madison Amthor had 22 assists, Liz Talbot had 11 kills and two blocks and Alphajoy Ferrer had nine digs as the Aztecs defeated the Arabs 25-17, 25-20, 25-15.

Palm Desert (8-6, 6-3) clinched a playoff spot and will battle La Quinta at home Thursday for the second spot in the DVL.
