Health officials ask residents not to forget seasonal flu vaccine

By Gina Tenorio • The Desert Sun • November 5, 2009

While much of the focus this flu season has been on the H1N1 flu virus, officials continue to advise people, especially those with underlying health conditions, to be sure to get a seasonal flu vaccine.

Riverside County Health clinics had run out of the vaccine as of Thursday afternoon but said they were awaiting more shipment of doses. Health Department officials encouraged people to call their health care providers.

Those unable to get it through their family physician can call visit the Palm Springs or Indio county health care centers to be screened to get the vaccine. The Palm Springs center is at 1515 North Sunrise Way. Indio’s center is at 47-923 Oasis St.

Riverside County Health Department officials continue to conduct vaccine clinics. However, only two of the remaining scheduled clinics are taking place in the Coachella Valley.

From 9 – 11 a.m. Nov. 9, there will be a clinic at the Shadowen Senior Center, 1540 7th St. in Coachella. The other will be held those same hours on Nov. 10 at the Indio Fashion Mall, 82-227 Hwy 111, Suite A-2.
