The La Quinta High girls tennis team will have three players in today's final round of the Desert Valley League individual tournament.
The Blackhawks' top player, Megan Lester, competes in the semifinals at Palm Valley Country Club in Palm Desert after she easily handled her first two matches Tuesday.
In the first round, she beat Rachel John of Cathedral City 8-0 and Violeta Mollova of La Quinta 8-2 to advance.
“Megan's the No. 2 seed in singles, certainly we expected her to get this far,” La Quinta head coach Michael Gates said. “She's been battling some illness, but she looked really good (Tuesday), so we hope that's behind her.
“I think Megan should advance and make it to the finals, where she's probably going to end up playing Desire (Krawczyk of Palm Desert),” Gates said. “She has the skills to beat her; it's just a matter of playing well.”
Also advancing for the Blackhawks was the doubles team of Katherine Dickerson and Sandra Balatkova, who won their first two matches 8-1, 8-0.
Today's tournament begins at 2:30 p.m. at Palm Valley Country Club.
