Chaghos brings car wash to your home

Victor Morales • victor.morales@thedesertsun.com • November 6, 2009

When Raul Orozco wiped down cars at his former job, he often worked with one eye on the vehicle and another on his impatient customer.

“People just don't have time to get their car washed,” Orozco said. “So when I left my job at the car wash, I wanted to bring the car wash to them.”

For the past month, the 25-year-old Cathedral City resident has ridden an entrepreneurial wave by delivering his mobile car washing services to customers' homes and offices in Cathedral City and Palm Springs, where he is licensed to do business.

Orozco named his business Chaghos, the nickname of his late grandfather.

“The work he does, he does it professionally,” said Lorenzo Gutierrez, a customer.

Orozco washes his Ford-150 dual cab pickup twice a month and pays attention to details that others neglect such as rims, windows and carpet, Gutierrez said.

“He does what others don't,” he said.

Orozco invested about $4,000 for a water tank, air compressor, high-pressure sprayer and other equipment in his business.

He charges $15 for cars and $20 for sport utility vehicles, vans and trucks. The service includes vacuuming the interior.

Business has been a “little slow” and inconsistent, he said.

“Some days we have three cars and other days we have 10,” he said. He said his busiest days are Fridays and Saturdays.

With sole-proprietorship comes more responsibility.

“I don't have a supervisor to fall back on anymore,” Orozco said. “ I have to make sure the car doesn't get damaged in any way or that nothing (in the car) get's lost.”
