Panel unveils 'Cubes' uptown

The Palm Springs Public Arts Commission on Thursday unveiled “Intersecting Cubes,” an 18-foot steel sculpture designed by American artist Brian Biedul.

The artwork stands at 803 N. Palm Canyon Drive near a modern townhouse complex in uptown Palm Springs.

Close to 20 people, including members of the arts commission and City Councilwoman Ginny Foat, attended the unveiling.

“The whole uptown area is becoming the vibrant area of Palm Springs,” Foat said.

The cost for the installation, lighting, delivery and the sculpture itself totaled $58,000. It was paid for out of the city's public art fund, which earns revenue from developer fees.

“I think it says great things,” Robert Stone, the commission's co-chairman, said at the unveiling. “It stands as a wonderful example of what we can do in Palm Springs.”
