La Quinta police arrested a man suspected of taking items from a partially open garage Wednesday night, police said.
La Quinta resident James Cook, 23, was detained at the Riverside County Jail in Indio on suspicion of residential burglary and a probation violation, police said.
The burglary in the 45-000 block of Desert Sand Drive in La Quinta was reported just before 5 p.m. Wednesday. Police said the victim confronted Cook, who fled from the home, jumping over neighbors' fences as he tried to escape.
Police said they found Cook about three blocks west of the home and took him into custody at 7:19 p.m. Police also said they found evidence that linked Cook to the burglary.
