Palm Desert 24, Indio 0: Twelve different Aztecs scored in this victory. Palm Desert, which improved to 5-2 in Desert Valley League play with the victory, had three goals each from Mykolas Marcinkevicius, Mitch Pilgrim, Josh Helmstadter and John McCormick.
Scoring twice were Tom O'Meara, Terry Zikov, Jeff Hurley and Austin Corbett, while Tim Hurley, Trevor Walker, Mark Pruett and Bryce Griffith each scored once. Chris Poe had four saves, Kyle Durst two saves and Garison Covel one save.
Cross country
INDIO ALUMNI RUN: At the sixth annual Alumni Run at Indio High School, Melina Hernandez was the outright winner with a course record of 18:14 over the 3-mile course.
The men won 20-42, taking the second through seventh places. Jerry Sanchez from COD was the top male finisher. He was followed by five Indio High runners: Brandon Chavez (16:25), Alejandro Cortez (16:26), Javier Carrillo (17:08), Ignacio Flores (17:16) and Gabriel Cortez (17:29).
The top runners for the women were Celia Tavarez (20:59), Maritza Espinoza (21:52), Gabby Hernandez- (21:55), Solana Osuna (22:06) and Jessica Salomon (22:52).
USC alumni club
Trojan mascot in valley The USC mascot, Traveler the horse, will be in the desert Wednesday as part of a scholarship fundraiser luncheon hosted by the Trojan League Associates of the Desert.
The Trojan Marching Band will play several tunes, and the keynote speaker will be band director Art Bartner.
All proceeds will benefit the 12 USC students who have scholarships from the League, including former Indio High student Daniel Arellano. Space is still available for the luncheon, which begins at 10:30 a.m. at Desert Island Golf and Country Club in Rancho Mirage. The cost is $90 per person.
