Electricity has been restored to thousands of Palm Desert Southern California Edison customers following an outage this afternoon.

About 13,000 customers within the area surrounding Cook Street and Via del Christo lost power at 1:57 p.m., SoCal Edison spokesman Charlie Coleman said.

Electricity was restored to most of them 10 minutes later, and a remaining 1,300 customers had full power by 3:30 p.m.

Today's outage was blamed on equipment failure at an Indian Wells substation, Coleman said.
