An Alta Loma photographer's work will be featured on the posters for the upcoming Southwest Arts Festival.

Indio Chamber of Commerce officials on Friday unveiled “Chapel at Dusk” by Laurent Martres, which will be the featured poster for the January arts festival.

“This is a great honor,” Martres said. “I have been doing this festival for seven years and for me, it is a very important festival.”

Martres is a professional landscape photographer and publisher of the “Photographing the Southwest” series.

“Chapel at Dusk” is a photo Martres took in April while visiting Arequipa, Peru.

Six artists who received awards during last year's Southwest Arts Festival entered the poster competition, said Joyce Donaldson, chief executive officer of the Indio Chamber of Commerce.

Martres was selected as the poster artist by a jury on Sept. 4, but chamber officials held back the unveiling for a couple of months until he returned from photo assignments in Africa, Donaldson said.

The Southwest Arts Festival will be held Jan. 29-31 at the Empire Polo Club, 81-800 Avenue 51, Indio.
