Construction is set to begin this month on a parking lot and public improvements for a proposed $1.5 million transportation center in Indio, a city spokesman said Friday.
The development of the Indio Transportation Center was put on hold this summer, when developer KEB Enterprises lost its financing for the project, city spokesman Mark Wasserman said.
The city is in discussions with developers to construct the center, which will be located in downtown Indio near Indio Boulevard and Civic Center Drive.
Meanwhile, the city's redevelopment agency is moving forward with the construction of the west parking lot, landscaping and two traffic signals at Civic Center Drive and Indio Boulevard and Civic Center Drive and Jackson Street, Wasserman said.
Construction on the parking lot and signals is expected to be completed in late February, Wasserman said.
When completed, the center will feature a main 17,000-square-foot terminal that will house Amtrak, Greyhound and Crucero Bus lines.
The terminal will also have gates for SunLine Bus, charter bus services, taxis and shuttles.
