Law enforcement officials are investigating an armed robbery that was reported early this morning near Indio.

The robbery happened around 1:30 a.m. today on Forest, near the
intersection of Clinton Street and Fred Waring Drive, Indio police spokesman Ben Guitron said.

The crime scene is in unincorporated Riverside County territory, and the Riverside County Sheriff's Department is handling the investigation, he said.

A clerk at the nearby Circle K store said a man entered the store asking to use the phone, saying he had been robbed.

It was unclear whether anyone had been hurt.
