Firebirds sweep to win league volleyball title

Clairre Abeyratne had 10 aces as Marywood-Palm Valley swept Public Safety Academy 25-12, 25-6, 25-10 to win the Majestic League high school volleyball title.


Lina Ichida added four kills, and Andrea Wanless had nine aces.

The Firebirds (18-2, 13-1) play in the CIF tournament next week.

College volleyball

COD sweeps Mt. San Jacinto: Brandi Baker had eight kills and four blocks and Stephanie Rovney added 14 digs and five aces as the Roadrunners won 25-6, 25-21, 25-16.

Paulina Cross contributed 28 assists.

Boys' water polo

Palm springs 17, cathedral city 6: The Indians beat the Lions to end the season perfect in DVL play (8-0).

Timmy Breitfeller led Palm Springs with five goals while PJ Redmon scored four.

Dylan Tashjian and Tucker Tashjian had three goals apiece. Preston Young added two goals.

Goalie Turner Anderson finished with 18 saves.

Palm Springs (22-6) is seeded No. 7 in CIF-SS Division V poll. The Indians' first-round opponent is scheduled for Wednesday at a location to be announced.

The Palm Springs High School boys water polo team will have their annual Alumni Game at 1 p.m. today at the Palm Springs Swim Center.
