Police seek armed robbers

Staff and wire reports • The Desert Sun • November 8, 2009

Riverside County sheriff's deputies were looking for suspects involved in an armed robbery Saturday in an unincorporated part of the county within the city of Indio, it was reported.

The robbery happened around 1:30 a.m. Saturday on Riverlane Drive, near the intersection of Clinton Street and Fred Waring Drive, according to media reports.

Indio police said they initially responded to the scene with reports of an armed robbery.

The incident did happen within the city of Indio. However, it occurred on a 211-acre parcel of land under the jurisdiction of the county.

As a result, the incident is being investigated by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department. Authorities with the department did not return calls for information on Saturday.

According to some media reports, the suspects robbed a victim and fled. A clerk at the nearby Circle K store told reporters a man entered the store asking to use the phone, saying he had been robbed.

It was unclear whether anyone had been hurt.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact sheriff's officials at (760) 863-8990.
