COD runners advance

WALNUT — Three College of the Desert cross country runners advanced to the state championships on Friday in the Mt. SAC Invitational.


Jerry Sanchez finished the four-mile course in a time of 22 minutes, 24 seconds.

On the women's side, Candace Salas had a time of 20:59, while Delia Cavazos ran a 20:50 in the 3.1 mile course.

The state championships will be held in Fresno on Nov. 21.

College football

Chaffey 10, College of the Desert 7: College of the Desert finished the season with a tough loss to Chaffey College.

The Roadrunners, ranked No. 18 in the Southern California regional community college rankings, finished the season losing their final four games.

No other game details were available by press time.

Basketball

Palm Desert High School alumni game: Palm Desert High School will hold its annual alumni game in the Palm Desert High School gymnasium at 3 p.m., Nov. 28.

All former Palm Desert High School basketball players are invited. Players are welcome to bring their friends and families at noon for food and games.

Local tennis

NJTL Tournament: A National Junior Tennis League tournament will be held at the Palm Desert Resort on Saturday and Nov. 15.

The tournament is open to advanced beginners through advanced intermediate players ages 5-18.

The first matches begin at approximately 11:30 a.m. Singles only, $10 per entry. Sponsorships are available. Registrations close at noon Thursday.

College basketball

Cal State San Bernardino vs. Westmont College: Cal State San Bernardino, the 2008-09 California Collegiate Athletic Association tri-champion and winner of the 2009 CCAA conference tournament, will play Westmont College in an exhibition men's basketball game at 7 p.m., Wednesday at Xavier College Preparatory High School in Palm Desert.

Admission is free and open to the general public.

The Coyotes are coming off a 20-10 season (15-5 in CCAA play).

CSUSB has won or shared eight conference titles in the last 10 years and advanced to the NCAA tournament in nine of those 10 years. The Coyotes have won three NCAA Division II West Region titles and advanced to the Final Four in 2007.

CSUSB defeated Azusa Pacific last year in a game at College of the Desert.

Westmont's Warriors are coming off a 16-14 season in NAIA.
